CM MK Stalin seeks removal of Governor, after controversy breaks out

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin criticizes Governor RN Ravi over the omission of 'Dravida' from the Tamil state anthem, sparking a political controversy.

A controversy has erupted between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi after a line containing the word 'Dravida' was skipped during the singing of the Tamil state anthem at an event attended by the Governor. Stalin accused the Governor of disrespecting Tamil culture and the state's unity, demanding that the Centre recall him. The skipped line added fuel to an already tense situation, as Stalin had earlier criticized the celebration of Hindi Month in a non-Hindi-speaking state like Tamil Nadu.

Governor Ravi, in response, called Stalin's allegations "regrettable" and claimed the Chief Minister had made a racist remark against him. Ravi maintained that the omission of the line was inadvertent and the result of a distraction during the recitation. Doordarshan Kendra, Chennai, also issued an apology for the mistake, clarifying that the singers had no intention to disrespect Tamil Nadu or its state song.

The row intensified as political leaders, including AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami, also condemned the omission, with various parties rallying behind Stalin’s call for action. Ravi, however, dismissed the accusations as "cheap" and claimed they undermined the dignity of the Chief Minister's office.

Stalin continued to criticize the Governor, questioning if he would allow a similar omission from the national anthem. The situation remains heated, with both sides refusing to back down.
