Earlier, former President Barack Obama endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee, putting an end to speculation about his support. In a joint statement, Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama expressed their belief in Harris's "vision, character, and strength" for the current moment.

After President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race last Sunday, Harris reached out to over 100 prominent Democrats, including Obama. Although Obama praised Biden's decision to step down, he initially stopped short of endorsing Harris. However, Harris has since gained the support of a majority of Democratic delegates, positioning her as the likely nominee for the party convention in August.

In their statement on Friday, the Obamas enthusiastically endorsed Harris, pledging to do everything possible to help her win. They highlighted her extensive experience as California's attorney general, a US senator, and vice-president, while emphasizing her vision and character as key attributes needed in this critical time.
