Out of control car runs over five, in Lucknow, watch here
In Lucknow, an out-of-control car ran over multiple pedestrians late Friday night. The vehicle first hit a passerby near Rumi Gate and fled the scene. It then crushed three individuals at Ghantaghar, leading to public outrage. As people pursued the car, the driver collided with an e-rickshaw in an attempt to escape.
The crowd surrounded the car near Chhote Imambara, where they attacked the vehicle and its driver. Police arrived shortly after, managing to calm the furious crowd, rescue the driver from their grasp, and take him into custody. Authorities later revealed that the driver, Ayushman Upadhyay from Para, was under the influence of alcohol.
The incident unfolded around 11:15 PM when the speeding car struck a pedestrian near Rumi Gate. The driver then attempted to flee but ran over three more people—Anwar, Guddu, and Faizan—near Ghantaghar. The chaos escalated as witnesses chased the car, which ultimately collided with a pole in Hussainabad.
Police reported that five individuals were injured in the incident, including a young girl, although this has not been confirmed. The driver also sustained injuries during the altercation. The car was extensively damaged by the angry mob, which reacted fiercely in the aftermath of the accident.
Inspector of Thakurganj police stated that the driver has been apprehended and the injured have been taken to the hospital for treatment. They emphasized that had the incident occurred at a busier time, the outcome could have been much worse.
