Actress Kasthuri Shankar has been remanded to judicial custody until November 29 after making controversial remarks about Telugu-speaking people in Tamil Nadu. She also argued that while these individuals identified as Tamils, they did not consider Tamil Brahmins as part of the Tamil community.

Complaints were lodged against Kasthuri with the Chennai police, leading to her arrest in Hyderabad on November 16. Her anticipatory bail plea had earlier been rejected by the Madras High Court's Madurai bench. Following her arrest, she was brought to Chennai and presented before a magistrate court in Egmore, which sent her to Puzhal Central Prison.

Despite withdrawing her remarks and issuing an apology, the controversy persisted. Tamil nationalist leader Seeman, while critical of her statements, questioned the necessity of her arrest and imprisonment after her apology.
