Delhi Election: Congress Unveils Second Guarantee with ₹25 Lakh Health Insurance Promise

Delhi Election

Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February, the Congress party has launched its second major election promise for the residents of Delhi. The party introduced the 'Jeevan Raksha Yojana' (Life Protection Scheme), under which all citizens of Delhi will be provided free health insurance of up to ₹25 lakh.

This initiative aims to ensure that every resident has access to quality healthcare without financial burden. This new announcement comes as political parties gear up to woo voters with various promises.

The Congress' health insurance scheme aims to address growing concerns around medical expenses, especially with the rising costs of healthcare in the city.

Previous Promises and Growing Support

Before unveiling the Jeevan Raksha Yojana, Congress had already rolled out another significant promise, especially targeted at women. The party had announced the 'Pyaari Didi Yojana' (Beloved Sister Scheme), which promises to provide ₹2,500 per month to every woman in Delhi, should Congress come to power.

Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader DK Shivakumar, who announced the scheme, emphasized that this initiative has already been successfully implemented in Karnataka and would be replicated in Delhi. He assured that if Congress forms the government in Delhi, the scheme would be approved in the very first cabinet meeting. He further stated, "In Karnataka, women are already benefiting from this scheme. If Congress comes to power in Delhi, we will implement this plan in our first cabinet meeting. Just like we kept our promise in Karnataka, we will ensure the same in Delhi."

Shivakumar also noted that similar programs have been successfully launched in other states like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Maharashtra, and the BJP is now attempting to replicate Congress' model.

BJP’s Counter: AAP’s Promises and Ongoing Registrations

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is also vying for Delhi's votes, has introduced the Mahila Samman Yojana (Women's Respect Scheme). Under this initiative, women will receive ₹2,100 per month if AAP wins the elections. Registration for this scheme has already begun, and the party is actively promoting it as one of their key election promises for women’s empowerment.

As the elections approach, the promises and schemes from all parties are expected to shape the political discourse in Delhi, with health, women’s welfare, and economic support taking center stage.

With Congress now entering the fray with bold guarantees for both health and women’s welfare, the competition is heating up as the political landscape in Delhi braces for a new set of electoral pledges.

The Road Ahead

With both Congress and AAP making high-profile promises, the Delhi elections are set to be a fierce battle of competing visions. While the Jeevan Raksha Yojana aims to tackle health concerns by offering substantial insurance coverage, the Pyaari Didi Yojana and AAP’s Mahila Samman Yojana are looking to position women’s empowerment and financial support as core issues. The coming weeks will determine which party's vision resonates more with the voters of Delhi as the election campaign gains momentum.
