Tragic Accident at Construction Site in Raipur: Two Workers Dead and Several Injured

A major accident occurred in Raipur, following a similar incident in the Mungeli plant earlier. The mishap took place in one of the busiest areas of VIP Road when a centering frame at a construction site collapsed, trapping several workers underneath.
At the time of the incident, a large number of workers were on site. The sudden fall of debris trapped multiple workers, and rescue operations were immediately launched.
Eight workers were successfully pulled out from the debris, but sadly, two of them were confirmed dead by the Additional SP, Lakhan Patle. Six others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The workers who were trapped under the rubble were immediately assisted by their colleagues, who worked together to remove the debris and rescue them.
Three of the injured were in critical condition and were rushed to the hospital. However, two succumbed to their injuries during treatment. The incident occurred around 3 PM in the Vishal Nagar area of VIP Road, where construction work was underway.
The centering slab was being installed between the 7th and 10th floors when the centering frame collapsed. Ten workers were trapped under iron pipes and construction materials. The rescue teams managed to extract all workers, but the two fatalities and six injuries have raised concerns about safety and negligence at the site.
SSP Raipur, Lal Ummed Singh, expressed that initial indications point to negligence, and a detailed investigation will be conducted by experts to determine the exact cause. Meanwhile, police and rescue operations continued at the scene. The construction site is located near the Grand Imperia Hotel, where workers were engaged in building a multi-story structure.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his condolences, stating, “I pray for the swift recovery of the injured and peace for the souls of the departed, offering my deepest sympathies to the grieving families.”
This tragic event follows another deadly accident that occurred on January 9 at the Kusum plant in Rambod, where a silo collapsed, trapping workers.
Despite a 40-hour-long rescue operation, four workers lost their lives. Deputy CM Arun Sao visited the site and gave instructions for the ongoing rescue efforts.
The Raipur accident has again raised concerns about the safety protocols and negligence at construction sites, highlighting the need for stricter safety measures and oversight to prevent such incidents in the future.
