Raipur: The Congress party has suffered a significant blow in Bemetara as Bemetara District Congress President Banshi Patel has resigned from the party, citing serious concerns over its functioning and decision-making process.

Patel submitted his resignation to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing disappointment over internal disputes and alleged irregularities in candidate selection for the upcoming urban body elections.

In his resignation letter, Patel mentioned that he had been associated with the Congress for 52 years, serving in various capacities. However, recent developments within the party have left him disheartened. He stated that despite raising concerns with Chhattisgarh Congress President Deepak Baij and other senior leaders regarding the deteriorating situation in Bemetara, no action was taken.

Allegations of Unfair Candidate Selection

Patel alleged that he was humiliated during the selection process for municipal election candidates. He claimed that the party leadership ignored the principles of the party’s constitution and did not take action against those who manipulated the candidate selection process.

He further stated that loyal Congress workers were sidelined, while former BJP members were given election tickets in an unethical manner. According to Patel, this blatant violation of party policies compelled him to step down from both the primary membership of Congress and his position as District President.

His resignation is seen as a significant setback for the party, especially at a time when leaders from both Congress and BJP are switching allegiances or contesting as rebels due to dissatisfaction over ticket distribution. This incident has further intensified the political turmoil in the region ahead of the upcoming elections.
