Principal in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad Forces Over 80 Female Students to Remove Shirts, Sends Them Home in Blazers, Parents Furious

Female Students

In a shocking incident in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand, the principal of a private school has been accused of forcing over 80 female students to remove their shirts and send them home wearing only blazers.

The incident occurred during the celebration of 'Pen Day' by 10th-grade students. The students were exchanging well-wishes and writing messages on each other's shirts, a practice that angered the principal.

In response, the principal scolded the students and ordered them to remove their shirts, only allowing them to wear blazers before sending them home.

Upon arriving home, the students were visibly upset and crying, and they informed their parents about the humiliating experience. The angry parents quickly lodged a complaint with the District Commissioner (DC) of Dhanbad, demanding strict action against the principal.

Incident Unfolds During 'Pen Day' Celebration

The incident took place on January 9, when the 10th-grade students were celebrating the final day of their school year. After completing their last exam, the students engaged in the tradition of writing messages and well-wishes on each other's shirts, a harmless tradition that has been followed for years.

However, the principal, Ms. M Devashree, was displeased by the students’ actions and reacted by calling them together for a reprimand. She then ordered the students to remove their shirts, sending them home in just their blazers.

The upset students returned home in tears and narrated the incident to their parents, who were deeply disturbed by the principal’s behavior.

Parents have since demanded a formal apology from the principal and are calling for strong punitive measures.

Parents Demand Action, Express Concerns Over Mental Health

The parents, furious over the incident, expressed their concerns about the mental and emotional distress caused to their daughters. They questioned why their children had been subjected to such humiliation and what crime they had committed.

"Our daughters came home in a state of utter embarrassment. The principal's actions were completely unjustified, and it is deeply troubling that she showed no regard for the impact her behavior would have on the mental health of these young girls," one parent said.

They also pointed out the pressure the students were already under due to the ongoing board exams and expressed fear that such an incident could lead to further emotional harm. "If something were to happen to our children due to this trauma, who would be held responsible?" one parent added, demanding that the principal be held accountable.

Investigation Underway

The incident quickly gained attention from local politicians, with Jharkhand's MLA Ragini Singh condemning the principal's actions as "Talibani behavior" and demanding immediate action.

The Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, has also intervened, ordering the District Commissioner, Madhavi Mishra, to investigate the matter. In response, DC Mishra confirmed that the incident was being taken seriously.

A committee has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The committee, consisting of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, District Education Officer, Social Welfare Officer, SDPO, and local police, will review the situation and report their findings.

Depending on the investigation, further legal action, including the filing of an FIR, may be taken. This incident has sparked outrage in Dhanbad and across Jharkhand, as citizens, parents, and political leaders demand justice for the students who were humiliated and traumatized by the principal's actions.

On the Dhanbad school incident, BJP leader Pratul Shahdeo says "What has happened in Digwadih of Dhanbad is absolutely shocking and unimaginable. A principal has ordered the removal of the shirts of 80 girls just because on the last functioning day of the school they were signing autographs on each other's shirts and somebody complained and 80 girls were called to the principal office and were asked to strip and that too in the presence of male teachers. The government is trying to do a cover-up just because the school belongs to a missionary group with which the government is in a friendly term. We will not allow this. Why has the principal not been taken into custody? Immediately arrest the principal. Imagine the plight of the 80 girl students, all of them are minors...BJP is giving the government 24 hours otherwise we'll be hitting the streets..."
