BJP legislator arrested, sent to police custody, know more
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara announced that BJP MLA N Munirathna has been arrested and placed in two-day police custody in connection with two cases against him, including allegations of issuing death threats to a BBMP contractor. Parameshwara dismissed claims of vendetta politics, stating that the arrest was made in accordance with the law. Munirathna, who represents the Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency in Bengaluru, was arrested in Nangli village, Kolar, on Saturday, facing charges of harassing a BBMP contractor, using casteist slurs, criminal intimidation, and outraging a woman’s modesty.
The arrest followed complaints by contractor Cheluvaraju, who released an alleged audio recording of Munirathna making threats and demanding bribes. Another complaint was filed by former corporator Velunayakar, accusing Munirathna of caste-based harassment. The audio will be sent for forensic analysis to confirm its authenticity.
Munirathna has denied the accusations, calling them a political conspiracy. The BJP has issued a show cause notice to Munirathna, asking him to respond to the allegations within five days. Meanwhile, a special court has remanded him to police custody for further investigation, with police planning to collect voice samples for forensic testing.
