Four nominated members of the BJP in the Rajya Sabha retired on Saturday, reducing the party's strength to 86 and the NDA's strength to 101 in the Upper House, which currently has 226 members due to 19 vacancies.

Despite this, the NDA can still pass key legislation in the House with the support of seven non-aligned nominated members, two Independents, and friendly parties such as AIADMK and YSRCP during the upcoming budget session. However, filling the vacancies in the nominated category as soon as possible will be crucial to reduce the alliance's reliance on others.

The four retiring nominated members are Rakesh Sinha, Ram Shakal, Sonal Mansingh, and Mahesh Jethmalani, all of whom had formally aligned with the BJP after their nomination to the Rajya Sabha. Another BJP-aligned member in the nominated category, Gulam Ali, will retire in September 2028.
