Tragic Bus Accident in Almora Claims 22 Lives, Rescue Operations Underway
A major road accident occurred in Almora, Uttarakhand, where a passenger bus traveling from Kinath to Ramnagar plunged into a deep gorge near Marchula.
Reports indicate that 22 people have lost their lives, while many others are injured. Local police and rescue teams were promptly notified, and efforts are underway to safely evacuate and transport survivors to nearby hospitals.
The 42-seater bus was carrying around 45 passengers at the time of the accident. The disaster management department confirmed 20 fatalities, while 20 other passengers are receiving medical treatment.
Several people remain trapped, and rescue teams are actively working to extract the victims. Almora SSP Devendra Pincha, along with SDRF teams and police from three districts, have arrived on the scene to aid in the rescue.
So far, 15 injured passengers have been moved to higher medical centers, and the death toll may rise as more bodies are recovered from the wreckage. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his sorrow over the tragic accident, instructing local authorities and SDRF teams to expedite rescue efforts. He also mentioned that, if needed, severely injured individuals may be airlifted for advanced medical care.
Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to Secretary Disaster Management, Commissioner Kumaon Division and DM Almora over the phone on the bus accident in Almora and got information about the incident and gave instructions to speed up the rescue and relief work. Along with SDRF, NDRF team has also reached the spot. Rescue and relief work has been started.
