Newlywed Woman Dies by Suicide Over Alleged Harassment by Father-in-law in Gariaband District
Rajim, Chhattisgarh: A tragic incident unfolded in Lachkera village of the Fingeshwar police jurisdiction in Gariaband district, where a newly married woman, Neha Yadav, aged 25, took her own life by hanging. Neha, who was married just three months ago, reportedly ended her life due to alleged harassment and abuse by her father-in-law. Local police arrived at the scene and have arrested the accused, Vishnu Yadav, her father-in-law, along with her husband, Girdhari Yadav.
According to reports, Neha married Girdhari Yadav three months ago in a traditional ceremony. On November 6, she was found hanging from a ceiling hook on the terrace of her home, using her saree to create a noose. When her husband returned, he found the door locked from the inside. With assistance from the village head (sarpanch) and local authorities, they broke down the door and discovered Neha's body.
During the investigation, police recovered a suicide note from Neha’s possession, in which she leveled serious accusations against her father-in-law, alleging that he attempted to violate her dignity. The note also revealed that despite her husband’s awareness of the harassment, he failed to take any action. Facing unbearable suffering, Neha ultimately took her life.
Police have registered a case against the father-in-law and husband under charges of abetment to suicide under Section 108 and 3(5) BNS. The authorities have sent the body for post-mortem examination and are continuing the investigation into the case.
