India vs Australia, 2nd Test Day 3 Highlights: Pat Cummins’ Masterclass Guides Australia to a Dominant 10-Wicket Win
Adelaide: Australia produced a commanding performance on Day 3 to humiliate India by 10 wickets, leveling the five-match Border-Gavaskar series at 1-1. Under the leadership of skipper Pat Cummins, Australia chased down a mere 19 runs in just 3.2 overs, with openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney taking them across the line without any hiccups.
Earlier in the day, Pat Cummins completed a remarkable five-wicket haul as Australia bowled India out for just 175, leaving the visitors with little hope of a fightback. Australia's fast bowlers led the charge, with Mitchell Starc picking up eight wickets in the match, while Cummins contributed with seven.
Travis Head was the standout performer for Australia with a brilliant knock of 140 runs, anchoring their innings in the first innings. For India, Nitish Reddy was the lone bright spot, contributing 42 runs in both innings but it was not enough to halt Australia’s dominance.
Rohit Sharma’s Reaction:
After the crushing defeat, India’s captain Rohit Sharma admitted that his team had not played up to expectations. “It’s been a disappointing week for us,” said Sharma. “We didn’t play well, and Australia played better than us. We failed to seize our opportunities. What we did in Perth was special, and we wanted to replicate that, but every Test match comes with its own challenges. We’re looking forward to the next match at Gabba. Some really good memories there, and we aim to start well and play better.”
TMC MP Kirti Azad’s Comments:
Former cricketer and TMC MP Kirti Azad offered his thoughts on the loss, emphasizing the importance of maintaining sportsmanship. “The other team is also playing cricket just like we are. The way we defeated them in the last match, they defeated us this time. We should keep the spirit of sportsmanship, not just a winning spirit,” Azad said.
On Rohit Sharma’s form, Azad noted, “If a senior, experienced player comments on someone else’s form, it’s more appropriate. Commenting on a sportsman’s form while watching them on TV is easy. Enjoy the game the way it’s meant to be. The other team is not there to lose, and cricket is not just about winning.” As the series moves to the next Test, all eyes will be on India’s response as they aim to bounce back from this heavy defeat.
