Bareilly Cleric Condemns Sambhal Stone-Pelting Incident, Appeals for Peace
Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh – Following the stone-pelting incident in Sambhal during a survey at the Jama Masjid, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has urged the local Muslim community to uphold the principles of peace and harmony as taught in Islam.
In his statement, Maulana Razvi strongly condemned the act of stone-pelting and vandalism, calling it "inappropriate and against the teachings of Islam." He appealed to the Muslims of Sambhal to "maintain peace and tranquillity" amidst the ongoing tensions.
Addressing the legal dispute surrounding the Jama Masjid, Maulana Razvi asserted the community's claim over the historic mosque. "The Jama Masjid is ours. Its towers, walls, and domes bear witness to its historical significance as a Tarikhi Masjid," he said.
He emphasized the importance of resolving the matter through lawful means, stating, "We will fight this in court with strong evidence, and we are confident that success will be ours."
The stone-pelting incident occurred during a court-ordered survey at the Jama Masjid, following claims that it was built on the site of a temple. The survey has heightened tensions in the area, leading to calls from leaders across the community to maintain order and respect the judicial process.
Maulana Razvi's statement seeks to de-escalate the situation while reaffirming the community's commitment to pursuing justice through legal channels.
