Government Increases Reward for Helping Road Accident Victims Reach Hospital: Nitin Gadkari Announces New Plan

Road Accident

In a significant move to encourage prompt action during road accidents, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced an increase in the reward for individuals who assist injured victims by transporting them to a hospital.

The reward, which was previously set at ₹5,000, will now be raised to ₹25,000. Gadkari shared this information during an event in Pune, emphasizing the importance of timely medical intervention for accident victims.

The initiative is part of the government's ongoing efforts to improve road safety and save lives. Gadkari explained that the current reward amount was insufficient for those who help accident victims by rushing them to the hospital or trauma center.

He noted that timely intervention, especially within the critical "Golden Hour" (the first hour after an accident), significantly increases the chances of survival for the injured.

Furthermore, Gadkari reiterated that the central government's Cashless Treatment scheme, which covers up to ₹1.5 lakh for the treatment of road accident victims for up to 7 days, will continue. Under this scheme, the government will bear the cost of medical treatment if the accident is reported to the police within 24 hours.

The reward scheme, introduced in October 2021, aims to motivate people to assist accident victims and ensure they receive immediate medical care.

Minister Gadkari has directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to implement the enhanced reward system, which is expected to foster greater public involvement in road safety.
