Ongoing Encounters with Terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir: Four Militants Killed, CRPF Officer Injured
In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces are engaged in encounters with militants at three separate locations, leading to the elimination of four terrorists so far. A CRPF officer sustained injuries in one of these confrontations. The increased activity comes amid a spike in terrorist incidents in the region over the past month.
On Saturday, November 2, 2024, encounters broke out in Srinagar and Anantnag. In Srinagar’s Khanyar area, security forces neutralized one militant, while a CRPF jawan was reported injured during the operation. Meanwhile, in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, encounters unfolded in two areas—Kokernag and Kachwan. Security forces successfully killed two foreign terrorists in Kachwan, with reports suggesting a third terrorist was present. Operations are being carried out by 19 RR (Rashtriya Rifles) and 7 Para Special Forces.
This follows a recent incident on October 28, when terrorists attacked an army vehicle in Akhnoor, leading to an encounter. Following this, security forces launched a search operation in the area. In another incident, terrorists ambushed an army vehicle near Gulmarg, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and two local porters. A fifth casualty occurred when an injured soldier succumbed the next day.
Reports indicate several ongoing encounters across multiple areas, including Bandipora, Doda, Kishtwar, and Srinagar's Khanyar. In response to recent events, Chinar Corps of the Indian Army shared on social media about an ongoing operation in Halqan Gali, Anantnag. Acting on specific intelligence, the Army, J&K Police, and CRPF jointly initiated the operation, challenging suspected terrorist activity in the area. The resulting exchange of fire led to the elimination of two militants, with the operation still underway.
Bandipora also witnessed an encounter where terrorists opened fire on security personnel before fleeing into the forest. An ongoing search operation is underway to locate the suspects.
The recent surge in encounters has heightened security efforts across Jammu and Kashmir, with forces actively engaged in neutralizing militant threats across the region.
