JP Singh, currently serving in Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran division, appointed as India's New Ambassador to Israel

Jitender Pal Singh, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has been appointed as India's new Ambassador to Israel.
He will soon take up his new role, following the tenure of Sanjeev Singla, who served as the Ambassador from 2019 to 2024. The MEA did not specify the exact date of Singh's assumption of office. Singh, a 2002-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is currently serving in the Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran (PAI) division of the MEA.
As India's point person for Afghanistan, Singh has played a pivotal role in shaping and executing India's policy towards the Taliban-controlled government in the country. His diplomatic expertise and involvement in critical negotiations, including meetings with the Taliban's acting defense minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, have been notable.
Singh’s appointment comes at a time when India is strengthening its ties with Israel, particularly in defense and trade. Israel has become a key supplier of military hardware to India, and the two countries have seen growing economic collaboration in high-tech sectors, including electronic machinery. Israel is also India's second-largest trading partner in Asia.
He will replace Sanjeev Singla, who assumed his new position as Ambassador to France and Monaco on January 8, 2024. Singh’s new role in Israel is seen as an important step in further enhancing the already strong bilateral relations between the two nations.
