BJP leader shot dead, motive unclear, police assures speedy investigation

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was shot dead in Patna on Tuesday night. The victim has been identified as Ajay Shah, a former general secretary of the BJP's Bajrangpuri Mandal.

According to police reports, 50-year-old Shah, who was also a dairy booth operator, was shot near the Bajrangpuri canal in the Alamganj police station area around 10 PM. After the attack, the assailants fled the scene. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and the police have launched an investigation.

Patna City ASP Sharath RS, who arrived at the scene following the incident, assured that the police are actively investigating and that the culprits will be apprehended soon. He also mentioned that a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called in, and the statements of Shah’s family members are being recorded. CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed to help identify the attackers.

According to reports, two individuals approached Shah's booth and shot him following a heated argument. Upon hearing the gunshots, Shah's family members rushed out and took him to a private hospital, followed by NMCH for treatment, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

The police have sent Shah’s body for a postmortem examination.
