Political Clash in Chhattisgarh: Bhupesh Baghel and Ajay Chandrakar Trade Barbs Over App
Chhattisgarh’s political atmosphere has heated up again, this time over the state Excise Department's newly launched "Manpasand" app. The app, which provides information about liquor availability, brands, and prices, has sparked a war of words between former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and BJP leader Ajay Chandrakar, escalating into personal attacks and allegations.
The Launch of the ‘Manpasand’ App
On Wednesday, the Excise Department unveiled the “Manpasand” app, designed to help customers locate their preferred liquor brands at various outlets. The app also allows users to file complaints related to liquor stores and notify the department if a specific brand is unavailable.
Bhupesh Baghel’s Criticism
Taking a dig at the BJP government led by Vishnu Deo Sai, Bhupesh Baghel used the app’s launch to criticize their liquor policy. On Thursday, Baghel tweeted:
"BJP says this app will ensure people drink the ‘best liquor.’ Under the ‘School Closed, Scotch Started’ scheme, BJP’s new slogan is, ‘We made it, we’ll serve it.’”
Baghel also shared a video of BJP leader Ajay Chandrakar, accusing the government of prioritizing liquor over public welfare.
Chandrakar Hits Back
Ajay Chandrakar was quick to respond, accusing Baghel of sharing an edited video to tarnish his image. He took the attack a step further by challenging Baghel’s leadership and integrity, saying:
“If you have any political ethics, share my full video on your and Congress’s social media pages. I believed Bhupesh Baghel practiced politics like a man, but now he relies on edited videos for his leadership. If you have the courage, accept my challenge and act like a man. Otherwise, go for a testosterone test to prove your masculinity.”
Police Complaint Filed
The political drama took another turn when BJP MLA Rikhesh Sen lodged a police complaint against Bhupesh Baghel at Supela police station in Bhilai, accusing him of spreading false information.
A History of Liquor Politics in Chhattisgarh
The issue of liquor has long been a contentious topic in Chhattisgarh politics. During the BJP government led by Raman Singh, liquor prohibition was a major demand. Similarly, Baghel’s tenure as Chief Minister faced protests over the same issue. The “Manpasand” app has reignited this debate, providing both parties with ammunition for their political battles.
Conclusion
The clash over the "Manpasand" app highlights how liquor policies remain a polarizing issue in Chhattisgarh. With both Bhupesh Baghel and Ajay Chandrakar refusing to back down, the debate has turned into a personal and political showdown, reflecting the intense rivalry between the Congress and BJP in the state.
