Nainital fire rages on for 36 hours now, IAF helis pressed into service, know more

Nainital forest fire is raging for more than 36 hours now as the authorities, both from state and national scramble to douse the blaze. An IAF Mi-17 helicopter takes water from Bhimtal Lake in Nainital as the Forest Department calls in the Indian Air Force and Indian Army for help in controlling the fire in Nainital which has been going on for more than 36 hours and burnt many hectares of forest.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered emergency services officials to take all measures to combat the fire that broke out near Nainital district early Friday. The fire is raging to the extent that the military personnel had to be summoned to help.

Military personnel have joined forest rangers & emergency workers to prevent the blaze from spreading into “sensitive areas of the Indian Army”.

The massive fire broke out in a forest area near the High Court Colony in Nainital on Friday. In the last 24 hours, 31 new incidents of forest fire were reported from various parts of the state, destroying 33.34 hectares of forest land.
