Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed the Chief Secretary over phone to immediately issue instructions to the District Magistrates to continuously monitor forest fires every day for a week.
CM Dhami has directed District Magistrates to completely ban the burning of all types of fodder (stubble burning) for a week with immediate effect. Along with this, urban bodies have also been instructed to ban the burning of their solid waste in forests or around forests.
Recently a major fire broke out in the forest area and now the police claims to have come into possession of a video after it went viral on social media platforms. In the video, the three youths were promoting forest fires.
“They were booked under section 26 of the Indian Forest Act of 1927 and several other sections of the Indian Penal Code,” the local officials added.
Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP), Abhinav Kumar, said that several cases have been registered in nine districts in connection with forest fires in the state.
