Beating up of an interfaith couple
On the Haveri incident, BJP leader and former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said, “There is no law & order in Karnataka. I demand the formation of an SIT headed by a senior office to probe this case. The accused, if proven guilty, should get life imprisonment. Conduct of local police also to be probed.”
It all looked like a moral policing case where Muslim youngsters beat up an interfaith couple staying at a lodge in Haveri.
Nearly 7 men barge into a lodge and thrashed the couple. The victims were dragged to the streets and assaulted, while filming of the entire act continued.
It is alleged that the woman was subsequently raped as well but the police probe is ongoing.
Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara has said, ” They (BJP) are the ones who are encouraging moral policing in the state. We are here to stop moral policing. We don’t tolerate these kind of things.”
