Warships from Russian Pacific Fleet visiting Indian port of Kochi, signaling strong ties
A group of Russian warships has arrived at the Indian port of Kochi on the southwestern coast, according to the Russian embassy.
The embassy stated, "The Varyag missile cruiser and the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate from the Russian Pacific Fleet have docked at the port of Kochi, India, in the Arabian Sea."
"This visit highlights the strong naval cooperation between Russia and India," it added.
The visit of Russian warships should be seen in context of increasing movement of American and Chinese naval ships. India and Russia, trusted partners and keen to forge a multipolar world, need to cooperate and work more closely so that they can diversify their respective American and Chinese trade dependence with each other.
The two countries also need to offer the Asian economies an option other than siding with either U.S. or China.
