United States has raised with India, privately, its concerns over continuing ties with Russia.

United States has raised with India, privately, its concerns over continuing ties with Russia. The U.S state department spokesperson Matthew Miller has confirmed this in response to media queries. United States is facing questions over its claims on India ties when Prime Minister Modi opted to visit Russia for the first bilateral meeting.

"So, as I said yesterday, we have been quite clear about our concerns about India's relationship with Russia. We have expressed those privately, directly to the Indian Government and continue to do so, and that hasn't changed", Miller said. "We have had conversations with them in the past 24 hours, and I think I'll keep the contents of those private", he added  to a follow-up question.

United States has been claiming India as its strategic partner but Modi government has not given up on Russia ties. While India has substantially increased purchase of Russian oil, the PM Modi's visit to Moscow of July 8 has sealed a number of agreements including high powered nuclear units, coal and fertilizer supplies and even long term uranium supply pact.

The manufacturing and maintenance of Russian defence items in India has further aggravated Western analysts.

"Well, as I said yesterday, we urge India, we continue to urge India, to support efforts to realize an enduring and just peace in Ukraine based on the principles of the UN Charter, based on upholding Ukraine's territorial integrity and its sovereignty. And that will continue to be what we will engage with Ukraine - I'm sorry - we will engage with India about", the spokesperspon Miller added.
