Urban Body and Panchayat Elections to Be Conducted via Ballot Paper, Says Minister Arun Sao

Ballot Paper

Raipur: As preparations for urban body and three-tier panchayat elections are underway, Urban Administration Minister Arun Sao announced a significant decision regarding the electoral process.

He stated that the elections will be conducted using ballot papers instead of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Speaking to the media, Minister Sao explained that delays in the readiness of EVMs led to the decision to use ballot papers.

He added that the Election Commission is gearing up for the polls, and the model code of conduct could come into effect anytime after January 7.

The minister also highlighted the government's commitment to holding the elections promptly. He mentioned that the reservation process and changes in regulations are being finalized.

"We have set January 7 as the deadline for completing the reservation process for urban body elections, including for the post of Mayor. Once the process is complete, the information will be sent to the Election Commission," he said.

Minister Sao emphasized that several rules have been amended, and the government has implemented a new system through legal reforms.

The use of ballot papers for urban body and panchayat elections marks a shift aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process.
