An undertrial has escaped from Durg district hospital and it has emerged that two of his masked accomplices reached there and beat up the police guards. It is learnt that the masked accomplices also snatched the mobile sets of two police guards.
Police sources claimed that the undertrial, being tried in a murder case, had gone to the toilet when the attack on police guards took place.
The undertrial has been identified as Anupam Jha of Vaishali in Bihar. He was arrested in the case of shooting at jewellery shop owner Surendra Soni within Amleshwar police station limits. Jha is accused of later having fled with valuables from the shop.
It was on Nov 14 that he was admitted to Durg district hospital but on the very next day, he went to toilet but that is when two masked men arrived at the scene and beat up the police guards, Geeta Khoonte and Rajulal Verma.
Mobile phones of the two police guards were snatched and then they were locked inside that very toilet. Police has intensified the search for the accused.
