In Sarai Jagna village of Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, a major bulldozer operation was conducted, demolishing the homes of 23 families to remove illegal encroachments on government land. These houses had been built around 40 years ago. Additionally, notices have been issued to over 100 houses and shops, causing widespread fear among residents that their homes may soon be destroyed. The question arises: what led to this bulldozer action?

According to media reports, the action stemmed from a dispute between two villagers regarding a pathway. One party, Gudiya (also known as Hadisun), was entitled to a larger portion of the pathway, while the neighbor, Javed, was only willing to grant three feet. This disagreement escalated to such an extent that it reached the High Court, and after a prolonged legal battle of one and a half years, Gudiya finally received justice. However, no one anticipated that this court ruling would result in devastation for the entire village.

Following the court's order, the process of measuring the land for Gudiya's pathway began. During this time, the district administration discovered that the land in question was actually part of the village community land, and the pathway that was the subject of the legal battle was government property. Consequently, notices were issued to all 129 families in the area, instructing them to vacate the encroached government land. Residents were warned that if they did not comply, bulldozer action would be taken.

In the first phase of this operation, 23 houses were demolished on Wednesday. The villagers are now living in fear; the dread of further bulldozer actions is so intense that many are preemptively demolishing their own homes and shops. Numerous individuals are seen removing their belongings from their houses as chaos ensues throughout the village. Many residents now regret having fought a long battle over a mere three feet of land, reflecting on the irony that the homes they built and the peaceful lives they led are now being taken from them.
