The Central Government has constituted a single-member Committee, chaired by a senior officer of the rank of Additional Secretary to Government of India to verify the candidature claims and other details of IAS Puja Manorma Dilip Khedkar, a candidate of Civil Services Examination-2022 and earlier CSEs. The Committee will submit its report in 2 weeks, as per the Ministry of Personnel. On centre setting up panel to probe her candidature, IAS probationer Pooja Khedkar told media, "I am not authorised to speak on this matter."
It is now confirmed that the Central government has established a solitary committee to investigate the candidacy assertions and background of probationary IAS officer Puja Khedkar, who has become embroiled in controversy surrounding her appointment and conduct. Chaired by a senior Additional Secretary-level official, the committee has been mandated to verify Khedkar's claims within the next two weeks.
Khedkar, a 2023-batch IAS officer, has faced scrutiny over allegations regarding her eligibility under the OBC non-creamy layer and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories for the UPSC exam. Additionally, concerns have been raised about her substantial wealth and assets, which include 110 acres of agricultural land, 6 plots, 7 flats, 900 grams of gold and diamonds, a gold watch valued at Rs 17 lakh, 4 luxury cars, and property amounting to Rs 17 crore. Her father, a retired Maharashtra government official, also possesses assets exceeding Rs 40 crore.
The controversy intensified after Khedkar, during her probationary period, reportedly demanded special privileges such as a separate cabin, official car, and dedicated staff, all of which were denied by the administration. Subsequently, she was transferred from Pune to Washim district before completing her training.
The committee's inquiry aims to clarify the legitimacy of Khedkar's appointment and address the allegations concerning her conduct and financial status. The findings, expected within two weeks, will play a crucial role in determining appropriate actions in this matter.
In parallel developments, Pune traffic police have issued a notice to Khedkar for allegedly affixing an amber beacon on her private vehicle. The vehicle, purportedly displaying 'Government of Maharashtra,' has been penalized under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act for violating traffic regulations.
