Trouble mounts for celebrated IPS officer Amit Lodha, ED files case against husband, wife
IPS officer Amit Lodha, known as Bihar's Singham and the subject of the web series Khaki, is currently in the spotlight for troubling reasons. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a case against him and his wife, Kaumudi Lodha, accusing them of possessing assets beyond their known sources of income and abusing their positions. Recently, the central investigative agency registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) against them.
Amit Lodha, a highly regarded officer from Bihar, is facing potential legal action based on the ECIR report. The ED is conducting an in-depth investigation into allegations of financial misconduct and misuse of power. Lodha, a 1998-batch officer from the Bihar cadre, currently serves as the Inspector General at the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB).
Born on February 22, 1974, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Lodha attended St. Xavier’s School before gaining admission to IIT Delhi through the JEE exam. However, his experience at IIT was challenging, leading to a period of self-doubt and depression. He later regained his confidence by clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination on his first attempt, which marked a turning point in his career. Lodha had previously received an E grade in Mathematics at IIT Delhi but excelled in the subject during the UPSC exam.
His maternal grandfather was an IAS officer, which influenced his aspiration to join the uniformed services. On December 7, 2022, the State Vigilance Unit (SVU) registered an FIR against him for possessing disproportionate assets. This FIR included Lodha and others from the Magadh Range and is filed under sections 13 (1)(B) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998. Following this, the ED initiated an ECIR, further complicating Lodha's legal troubles.
