Tragic Accident

In a heartbreaking incident in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district, a speeding tractor-trolley overturned, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to eighteen others. The accident occurred near Chitaiyan village on the evening of Saturday, October 5, as the victims, all laborers, were returning home from work. Reports indicate that the driver lost control of the tractor, leading to the overturn.

Out of the forty passengers onboard, one woman, identified as 35-year-old Vimala Devi, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, while eighteen others were injured, with five reported in critical condition.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vandana Singh stated that police and district administration teams promptly responded to the scene to assist the victims. "Nineteen injured individuals were transported to a hospital, where one woman, Vimala Devi, later died from her injuries," ASP Singh confirmed.

"Doctors have referred five of the injured to a higher medical facility due to their critical condition, while the others are being treated in the emergency ward," she added.

A female witness from the group of passengers claimed that the tractor driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, which contributed to this tragic event.

Notably, this incident marks the second major accident involving laborers in Uttar Pradesh in recent days. Just the day before, on October 4, at least ten people lost their lives, and more than three were injured when an out-of-control truck collided with a tractor-trolley carrying laborers. This earlier incident occurred around 1 AM on the Mirzapur-Varanasi border, where the tractor, transporting over thirteen laborers, was traveling from Bhadohi district to Banaras.

Superintendent of Police (Mirzapur) Abhinandan remarked, "We received reports of an accident on GT Road at the Mirzamurad-Kachhwa border, where a truck lost control and struck a tractor carrying thirteen people. Of those, ten were pronounced dead, and the three injured were immediately sent to BHU for treatment. All thirteen individuals were laborers returning to their village."
