Tornado strikes southern China, heavy rains and deadly floods follow, five people die, 33 injured

As many as five people died and 33 have been injured in a tornado that struck Guangzhou, in southern China. It is learnt that Guangzhou is a city of 19 million people in southern China and has witnessed tornadoes at level-three intensity, two below the highest level of five.

The tornado was followed by multiple days of heavy rains and deadly floods lashing southern China. As many as 141 factory buildings were damaged, but no residential houses collapsed.

Local meteorological bureau explained the reason behind of the disaster including a prolonged period of high temperature and humidity, resulting in atmospheric instability near the surface.
