Maharashtra government has formed a committee to increase sale of beer and help hike the revenues of the exchequer. This after beer industry representatives too visited the government asking for reduction in excise fee on this commodity.
The five member committee is headed by Additional Chief Secretary of the excise department and will study the overall beer policy of the state government. It has been pointed out that alcohol in foreign and local liquor is more than present in beer and thus the excise duty levied is also higher.
Thus, the beer industry representatives bat for reduction in beer excise duty.
