The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completed the preliminary automotive trials of the Indian light tank, Zorawar, a highly versatile platform designed for deployment in high-altitude regions. The trials, conducted in desert terrain, showcased the tank's remarkable performance, achieving all set objectives. During this phase, the tank's firing capabilities were rigorously tested, with precise accuracy achieved on designated targets.

Zorawar was developed by the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), a DRDO unit, in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Numerous Indian industries, including Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), contributed to the development of key subsystems, highlighting India's growing indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO, the Indian Army, and the industry partners for this successful achievement, calling it a major step toward India's goal of self-reliance in critical defence technologies. DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V Kamat also congratulated the team for their efforts. Zorawar, a 25-tonne tank, was first unveiled in July 2024 and is set for further trials, including missile testing, by January 2025. User trials by the Indian Army will follow, testing the tank in various conditions before production begins.

The Ministry of Defence emphasized the tank's versatility, particularly in high-altitude deployment, and the importance of achieving accurate targeting—known as First Round Hit Probability (FRHP)—in modern combat scenarios. The success of this project showcases India's progress in indigenous light tank production.
