Three Pakistani Nationals Receive Indian Citizenship Certificates Under CAA in Durg District

CAA

Durg, 8 January 2025: In a significant development, three individuals from Pakistan have been granted Indian citizenship certificates under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The Durg District Collector, Richa Prakash Chaudhary, handed over the citizenship certificates to the three Pakistani nationals—Rami Bai, Baby Harshita, and Mayank Kumar. The three recipients, who expressed immense joy upon receiving their certificates, thanked both the state and central governments for their support.

Collector Richa Prakash Chaudhary awarded the certificates to Rami Bai, wife of the late Mukesh Kumar, Baby Harshita, and Mayank Kumar, son of the late Mukesh Kumar, all of whom arrived in India in 2007.

The family, originally from Pakistan, has been living in Durg's Ward 26, Sindhi Colony, since their arrival. With the receipt of the citizenship certificates, they are now officially recognized as Indian citizens.

The trio expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the Collector, as well as the state and central governments. Previously, these individuals were citizens of Pakistan, but after migrating to India in 2007, they had been residing in Durg. The grant of citizenship marks a pivotal moment in their journey towards becoming full citizens of India.

Impact of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)

The CAA has simplified the process for Pakistani Hindu refugees who arrived in India before 2014. Durg district, home to hundreds of Pakistani Hindu refugees, has witnessed a streamlined process for granting citizenship since the implementation of the CAA.

Under the new provisions, many formalities that were once mandatory, including a 12-year waiting period, have been significantly reduced. The online application process has made obtaining citizenship more accessible.

Several refugees who have recently obtained Indian citizenship have expressed their happiness and gratitude. "We are overjoyed to become citizens of India. We thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai for making this possible," said one of the recipients.

This development highlights the government's continued efforts to provide citizenship to minority communities from Pakistan, ensuring a smoother and faster path to citizenship for those who have long considered India their home.
