The GPS tracker anklets are fastened around the ankle of the accused to be kept under surveillance while he or she is out on bail.

The first such anklet has been fastened around one Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, who is an accused under the UAPA and had applied for a bail.

It is learnt that the Jammu based Special NIA court agreed for monitoring of Bhat while he was out on bail. Thus he became the first person in India to have been fastened the GPS tracker anklet.

It need be mentioned that such anklets are quite popular in Western countries such as US, UK, Australia or New Zealand.
