Temperature in Chhattisgarh to Drop by 4 Degrees, Winter Intensifies
Chhattisgarh is set to experience a sharp dip in temperatures over the next two days, as winter conditions intensify following a spell of cloudy skies and rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature is expected to drop by up to 4°C in many parts of the state.
Current Weather Conditions
Rainfall and Cloud Cover: Light rain has been recorded in some areas, with Jagdalpur receiving 11.5 mm of rain on Sunday.
Temperature Highlights: Lowest Temperature: 8.9°C in Balrampur. Highest Temperature: 31.6°C in Durg.
Raipur's weather is predicted to remain partially cloudy, with a maximum temperature of 30°C and a minimum of 18°C.
Cold Wave and Fog in Pendraroad
The hilly region of Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM) is wrapped in dense fog, creating a picturesque, hill-station-like atmosphere.
Visibility: Reduced to just 5 meters due to heavy fog.
Local Experience: Residents are enjoying the chilly weather, with many seen lighting bonfires and sipping tea to beat the cold. Morning walkers and travelers have reported the need for headlights due to low visibility.
A local resident said, "There’s no need to visit Kashmir or Shimla. The beauty of our Pendra is equally mesmerizing."
Weather Forecast and Trends
Meteorologists have predicted a further drop in minimum temperatures across the state after 24 hours. Light rainfall and thunder are also expected in isolated areas due to a western disturbance and moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
Temperature Variation: Maximum temperatures are showing fluctuations, with Durg recording 4°C above normal and Ambikapur 0.6°C below normal. Rainfall has caused minimum temperatures to remain above average in most regions.
Fog Adds to the Scenic Charm
Pendra has become the center of attraction for its foggy mornings. Residents are capturing videos and enjoying the hill-station-like ambiance.
Morning Activities: Many stepped out early to soak in the weather, with local tea stalls witnessing a rush of customers.
Visitor Experience: Locals described the atmosphere as “magical and refreshing,” ideal for photography and leisurely strolls.
What’s Causing the Weather Shift?
A western disturbance in the upper atmosphere, coupled with a cyclonic circulation and a trough over 5.8 km above sea level, is bringing moisture to the state. This system is responsible for the light rain, fog, and subsequent drop in temperature.
Chhattisgarh’s winter is entering a more intense phase, making it a delightful experience for residents and tourists alike. As temperatures continue to drop, the state gears up for a cold wave that promises both challenges and moments of serene beauty.
