Teacher booked for forcing girl student watch porn, furious locals resort to vandalism in school
A 40-year-old head teacher in Assam’s Karimganj district has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly forcing a minor student to watch pornographic content on his mobile phone, according to local police. The accused, Jahir Uddin, is currently on the run.
The incident reportedly took place on August 12 but came to light only on Friday when outraged local residents gathered at the school, setting fire to property and chanting slogans demanding justice. Videos circulating on social media show the group chanting ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and expressing their anger over the incident.
Karimganj Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das informed that the minor’s family initially did not report the incident. "It appears there was an attempt to resolve the issue privately between the parties, but it fell through. We have now registered a case, and efforts are underway to arrest the accused teacher," he stated.
In addition to the POCSO case, police have also filed a suo motu complaint regarding the destruction of government property, as locals damaged school furniture and set fire to the premises. The fire brigade was called to extinguish the flames, but the school has suffered significant damage.
Residents of the area have demanded the immediate arrest of the teacher and called for the closure of the school. The protests included a road blockade, which was later cleared following the intervention of senior police officers and district officials.
