Sustained rainfall disrupts life in many parts of Bastar, Bijapur, Sukma and Dantewada among worst affected
Sustained rainfall over the past 24 hours in the Bastar division has severely disrupted daily life. Water is flowing over bridges and culverts, and several roads in Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada have been closed. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 18 districts.
According to the department, monsoon activity was generally normal across the state on Sunday, with light to moderate rainfall recorded at various locations. The highest rainfall of 10 centimeters was noted in Bellargaon, Dhamtari district.
In addition, 7 centimeters of rain was recorded in Bijapur and Gangalur, while Pendra received 6 centimeters. Rainfall ranging from 1 to 4 centimeters was observed at numerous other locations. The weather department also reported the formation of a low-pressure area in the west-central and adjacent northwestern Bay of Bengal. It is expected to move northward over the next two days, potentially affecting northern Chhattisgarh.
