Student dies by suicide, in Kota, 'no suicide note found' , says police

A 20-year-old student, Abhishek, who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in Kota, Rajasthan, reportedly died by suicide, marking a tragic incident just 24 hours after another similar case.
Abhishek, a resident of Guna in Madhya Pradesh, had been studying at a coaching institute in Kota since May of the previous year. According to police reports, he was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his paying guest accommodation located in the Dakaniya area under the jurisdiction of Vigyan Nagar Police Station.
The local police received notification of the incident around 7:45 PM on Wednesday. Upon arrival, they discovered Abhishek's body and noted that no suicide note was found at the scene. The reasons behind this heartbreaking decision remain unclear, and authorities are awaiting the arrival of his family for further proceedings.
This incident is particularly alarming as it follows closely on the heels of another suicide involving a 19-year-old student from Haryana, who was also preparing for the JEE. This second case has raised concerns about the mental health challenges faced by students in Kota, a city known as a hub for competitive exam preparation. The previous day's incident involved Neeraj, who was found hanging in his hostel room late Tuesday evening.
Despite recent claims from local authorities indicating a 50% reduction in student suicides compared to the previous year, these two incidents highlight ongoing issues within this high-pressure educational environment. In 2024, Kota reportedly experienced 17 suicides among coaching students, down from 26 in 2023.
The district administration has implemented measures aimed at improving student welfare and mental health, but the effectiveness of these initiatives remains to be seen as incidents like these continue to occur.
