A petrol bomb was thrown at a Durga Puja pandal in Dhaka's Tati Bazar area, leading to a stampede-like situation on Friday, October 11. The attack, carried out by anti-social elements, has caused widespread outrage within the Hindu community in Bangladesh. Prior threats against the Durga Puja celebrations had already been made.

A loud explosion was heard as the petrol bomb was hurled, creating panic among attendees, and the attackers quickly fled the scene. A video shared by the "Voice of Bangladesh Hindu" on social media shows an injured individual being rushed to the hospital.

In a separate incident in Chittagong, people sang an Islamic song on the stage of a Durga Puja celebration, further escalating tensions. A group claiming to be a cultural team performed at the JM Sen Hall, initially singing a secular song but followed it with an Islamic one, sparking outrage. Asis Bhattacharya, President of the Puja Committee, confirmed the event and assured that legal action would be taken.

Additionally, the same day saw the theft of Goddess Kali’s crown from the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Satkhira, a crown that had been gifted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2021 visit. The theft occurred between 2:00 and 2:30 PM on Thursday, after the temple priest left. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the culprit. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka expressed serious concern over the theft and urged the Bangladesh government to investigate and recover the stolen crown.
