SP Fines Himself for Traffic Violation After Driver Jumps Signal, Says 'No One is Above the Law'

Superintendent of Police Rajneesh Singh paying a traffic fine after his car jumped a signal in Bilaspur, showcasing his commitment to enforcing traffic rules.

Traffic Violation

In Bilaspur, a unique incident occurred when the Superintendent of Police’s car jumped a signal at a busy intersection on Sunday. The advanced cameras at the crossing captured the vehicle’s number, and an e-challan for ₹2000 was promptly issued by the ITMS system. Remarkably, Superintendent of Police Rajneesh Singh chose to pay the fine himself, emphasizing that "traffic rules are equal for everyone, and it's essential to pay fines as per government regulations."

The SP, who was en route to an event with the District Collector, was actually in the Collector's vehicle when the incident occurred. His own vehicle, rented from Goswami Travels, was following behind and driven by a chauffeur. The e-challan notification was initially sent to the mobile number of Monu Goswami, the owner of Goswami Travels, which operates the vehicle under contract with the department. Goswami forwarded the message to the driver, who then informed SP Singh. Although, by protocol, the travel operator was responsible for paying the fine, SP Singh voluntarily cleared the dues within hours, obtaining an official receipt.

SP Singh justified his action by stating, “The vehicle is leased to the department, and it’s my duty to ensure compliance by paying the fine.” The incident highlights the state of traffic management in Bilaspur, where many intersections experience congestion and have limited traffic personnel. Observations made on Tuesday revealed that many junctions were jammed, yet few officers were present to regulate traffic flow.
