Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announces his resignation, stating he will seek the people's mandate before returning to office, with AAP set to appoint a new leader.

Two days after being granted bail and released from prison following a six-month stint, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surprised his party by announcing his resignation at a meeting this afternoon.

"In two days, I will step down as Chief Minister. I will not occupy that seat until the people have made their decision. The elections in Delhi are still months away. I received justice from the legal system, now I will seek justice from the people's court. I will only return as Chief Minister with the people's mandate," Mr. Kejriwal stated.

"They sent me to jail because their goal was to break the AAP and the courage of Arvind Kejriwal... They thought they would break our party and form a government in Delhi after jailing me... But our party did not break... I did not resign from the jail because I wanted to protect the Constitution of India. I wanted to fail their formula... The SC asked the central government why a government cannot run from the jail... The SC proved that a government can run from jail...", he said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader also mentioned that another party member would be appointed as Chief Minister following his resignation. He added that he plans to reach out to the public for their support. Additionally, Mr. Kejriwal urged that the Delhi elections, originally set for February, be advanced to November, coinciding with the elections in Maharashtra.

On Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's 'I am going to resign from the CM position after 2 days' remark, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari says, "This is a PR stunt of Arvind Kejriwal. He has understood that his image among the people of Delhi is not of an honest leader but of a corrupt leader, today Aam Aadmi Party is known across the country as a corrupt party. Under his PR stunt, he wants to restore his image...It is clear that he wants to apply the Sonia Gandhi model, where she made Manmohan Singh a dummy Prime Minister and ran the government from behind the scenes. They have understood today that the Aam Aadmi Party is losing the Delhi elections and the people of Delhi cannot vote in their name, so they want to make someone else a scapegoat..."

On Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's 'I am going to resign from CM post after 2 days' statement, AAP MP Raghav Chadha says "...'Mukhyamantri ji agni-pariksha se guzarne ke liye taiyyar hai'. Now it's in the hands of the people of Delhi to decide if he is honest or not. Arvind Kejriwal had asked for votes in the name of work in 2020 and said that if I have worked then vote for me, if I have not worked then do not vote for me. The people of Delhi will declare the Chief Minister honest by voting for AAP and in the upcoming 2025 Delhi elections, the people of Delhi will declare their Chief Minister honest through that election...".
