Sharad Pawar Acknowledges RSS Role in BJP’s Maharashtra Victory: Sources

In a surprising turn of events, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar, known for his staunch opposition to the BJP, has reportedly credited the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP’s organizational prowess for their recent victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections, according to sources.
Acknowledging the Opposition’s Strategy
During a two-day party meeting at the YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai, Sharad Pawar highlighted the BJP and RSS’s ability to effectively reach every household through meticulous planning and unwavering commitment.
This praise comes despite the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) facing its worst-ever performance in the state elections, managing to secure only 10 out of nearly 90 contested seats.
Pawar reportedly stated, “The Sangh and BJP’s cadres demonstrated remarkable dedication and strategic planning, which ensured their success.” He urged his party members to emulate this approach by building a strong cadre base rooted in progressive ideologies inspired by social reformers like Shahu Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, and BR Ambedkar.
NCP’s Internal Reflection
Addressing his party’s disappointing performance, Pawar admitted that complacency after a successful showing in the Lok Sabha elections contributed to their downfall. “We became overconfident, while the ruling alliance (BJP-led Mahayuti) swiftly addressed its weaknesses,” he remarked.
He also acknowledged the party’s failure to effectively communicate its work for the upliftment of OBCs, a crucial voter base, especially in Marathwada, a region plagued by social unrest and caste-based violence.
Social Engineering and Reforms
Pawar stressed the need for social engineering to bridge caste divides in regions like Marathwada, where incidents like the death of a Dalit man in judicial custody and the murder of a village sarpanch have reignited tensions. Drawing parallels to the Marathwada University renaming controversy during his tenure as Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Pawar highlighted the importance of direct engagement with affected communities.
Plans for Revival
To reinvigorate the NCP, Pawar announced significant organizational changes, including reserving 50% of tickets for new faces in the upcoming local body elections.
He also hinted at an overhaul of the party structure to strengthen its grassroots presence. Context of Praise Pawar’s acknowledgment of the RSS’s ideological commitment is notable, given his leadership role in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising the NCP, Congress, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction), which opposes the BJP.
However, his remarks seem to reflect a pragmatic approach, encouraging his party to adopt similar discipline and strategy.
As Maharashtra’s political dynamics continue to evolve, Sharad Pawar’s reflections underline the challenges faced by opposition parties in countering the BJP’s electoral machinery. His call for introspection and reform within the NCP signals a readiness to adapt to changing political realities while striving to uphold progressive values.
