School Teacher, Wife, and Two Children Fatally Shot at Home in Amethi
In a shocking incident, a school teacher, his wife, and their two young daughters were shot dead by unidentified assailants at their home in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has vowed strict action against those responsible.
The victims, identified as Sunil Kumar, his wife Poonam, and their daughters, aged 5 and 2, were attacked in their rented home near Ahorwa Bhavani crossing. Armed intruders entered the house, opened fire, and fled the scene.
According to police, there were no signs of robbery, and the motive for the crime remains unclear. Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh stated that all possible angles, including a legal dispute involving Sunil, are being investigated. An earlier case filed by Poonam on August 18 against Chandan Verma, involving allegations of harassment, assault, and death threats, is being considered as a lead in the investigation. The case had been registered under the SC/ST Act.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the attack, calling it "unforgivable," and promised full support to the grieving family. He has instructed authorities to ensure swift and severe action against the culprits.
Sunil Kumar was a government school teacher at Panhona Composite School in Singhpur Block. Before becoming a teacher in 2020, he had served with the Uttar Pradesh police.
All four victims were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
