Sambhal Mosque Update: SC Directs Committee to Approach High Court, Emphasizes Peace and Harmony

Sambhal Mosque Update

Supreme Court has directed the committee overseeing the Sambhal mosque to approach the High Court for further proceedings regarding the recent survey order.

During a hearing on Friday, the Chief Justice emphasized the need for peace and harmony in the region, stressing that any petitions related to the matter would be fast-tracked and listed within three days of being filed.

The directive came in response to a plea challenging a lower court’s decision that allowed a survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal. The Supreme Court expressed a desire for a peaceful resolution, with the Chief Justice reiterating the importance of maintaining social harmony in the area.

“We want peace and harmony in Sambhal,” the Chief Justice stated, underscoring the court’s commitment to addressing the issue in a manner that promotes unity. The court’s order signals an expedited process for any related petitions, with the promise of swift hearings within a three-day window.

On the Sambhal dispute case, Vishnu Shankar Jain representing the Hindu side says, "Supreme Court said that peace and harmony should be maintained in Sambhal. SC has passed an order directing the Masjid Committee to approach the High Court and challenge the order of the trial court. SC has also directed the Advocate Commissioner to file his report in sealed cover. The court has said that it is not expressing any opinion on the merits of the case. SC has asked them (Masjid Committee) to challenge the order in Allahabad High Court and the same is filed and it should be listed before HC in 3 working days. There is a limited stay on trial court proceedings in the case."
