Saif Ali Khan Attack: Suspected Attacker Detained in Durg Found Innocent; Real Accused Arrested in Thane

Saif Ali Khan Attack

In a dramatic turn of events, the individual detained in Durg on suspicion of attacking actor Saif Ali Khan has been cleared of any involvement. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police confirmed the arrest of the actual accused, identified as Vijay Das, late Saturday night in Thane.

Real Attacker Arrested in Thane

Mumbai Police announced the arrest of Vijay Das, the primary suspect in the January 16 attack on Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence. A press conference is expected soon to provide further details about the case.

False Alarm in Durg

Earlier, a man named Akash Kannauje was detained by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Durg station on Saturday evening after disembarking from the Shalimar Express.

Mumbai Police, led by Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kunde, questioned Kannauje and determined that he had no connection to the incident. Although he had previously worked in Mumbai, his involvement in the attack was ruled out. Kannauje’s facial resemblance to the attacker shown in circulated photographs initially raised suspicion, but the investigation confirmed his innocence.

Authorities clarified that Kannauje is a resident of Janjgir-Champa district in Chhattisgarh and has no ties to the case.

RPF Criticized for Premature Disclosure

The RPF’s actions have come under scrutiny after they shared Kannauje’s photo with the media and implied his involvement before Mumbai Police could conclude their investigation. The premature disclosure created unnecessary confusion and media frenzy.

With the arrest of Vijay Das in Thane, Mumbai Police are set to shed more light on the case in an upcoming press briefing. The clarification about Kannauje’s innocence also underscores the need for caution in sensitive investigations. This incident highlights the challenges of high-profile investigations and the importance of accurate information in maintaining public trust.
