More than 50 prominent figures from West Bengal, including filmmaker Aparna Sen, educationist Pabitra Sarkar, and former Supreme Court judge Ashok Ganguly, have written to Bangladesh's President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, urging them to safeguard the safety of all communities in the country. The letter, addressed to Yunus, who recently assumed the role of head of Bangladesh's interim government, calls for immediate measures to protect vulnerable groups.

In his message on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Professor Yunus on his new responsibilities and expressed hope for a swift return to peace and normalcy in Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of Hindus and other minority communities and reaffirmed India's commitment to working with Bangladesh for the peace, security, and development of both nations.

Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, aged 84, was sworn in as the head of the caretaker government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin during a ceremony at the Bangabhaban presidential palace. Yunus's appointment follows the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India amid widespread protests against her government's controversial job quota system.

The Prime Minister posted on X:

"My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities. We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities. India remains committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfill the shared aspirations of both our peoples for peace, security and development."
