Rocket attack in Pakistan's Punjab claims 11 police officers, injures several others
At least 11 police officers were killed, and several others were injured when outlaws launched a rocket attack on Thursday in Punjab province, Pakistan, according to police reports. The incident occurred in Rahim Yar Khan district, about 400 kilometers from Lahore, when two police vehicles became stuck in a muddy road at Machah Point. The outlaws ambushed the stranded officers, killing 11 on the spot, taking others hostage, and injuring several more. A police spokesperson warned that the death toll could rise as some of the injured are in critical condition. The attackers fled the scene after the assault.
A heavy police contingent was dispatched to the area, and the injured were transported to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rahim Yar Khan. In response to the attack, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered IG Police Dr. Usman Anwar to urgently lead an operation to rescue the hostages. She emphasized that the lawlessness in the kacha areas (remote regions) of such districts would not be tolerated.
