It need be mentioned that the protests have been ongoing after the horrific details emerged into public domain about RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape-murder case.

There is such uproar after this rape and murder and as the details of this crime is emerging, the rage and fury is only growing and celebrities too cannot stay silent on these issues anymore.

Perhaps the reason why former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly, along with his wife, Dona, and daughter, Sana, joined the ongoing protests against the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, leading to widespread protests. The case is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following an order from the Calcutta High Court. Despite heavy rain, Ganguly and his family were seen standing alongside other protesters in Kolkata. Sana Ganguly emphasized the need for continued protest, stating, "Whether it rains or shines, this protest must continue. We demand justice, and we are united in this cause." Earlier, Sourav Ganguly, who is also a former BCCI president, condemned the incident, calling for severe punishment for the perpetrators. He also clarified a previous statement that had been misinterpreted on social media, where he was accused of downplaying the crime as an "isolated incident." Ganguly clarified his position, stressing the gravity of the situation and expressing his hope that the CBI investigation will lead to strict punishment for those responsible. He stated, "It’s a terrible crime, and once the CBI concludes its investigation, the punishment must be severe enough to deter anyone from committing such heinous acts in the future." The Ganguly family's participation in the candlelight protest highlights the broader issue of violence against women in India. The tragic case has ignited widespread protests from medical professionals and the public, calling for stronger protections and stricter laws against violence, particularly targeting medical staff. Since the incident, doctors across the country have engaged in various forms of protest, including candlelight vigils and work stoppages, demanding justice and systemic changes to prevent such atrocities.
