Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki has been honored with the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2024, recognizing his groundbreaking work in animation and his dedication to storytelling that inspires and elevates audiences globally. Often dubbed Asia's Nobel Prize, the Ramon Magsaysay Award celebrates individuals who have made significant contributions to society.

The announcement of the 2024 awardees was made on August 31. Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli and celebrated director of iconic animated films, has been honored for his exceptional impact on the world of cinema. His masterful storytelling and commitment to environmental conservation and social harmony have left a lasting impression on audiences of all ages.

Miyazaki’s notable works, including *My Neighbor Totoro*, *Spirited Away*, *Princess Mononoke*, *Howl’s Moving Castle*, *Ponyo*, and *The Boy and the Heron*, have captivated and inspired viewers worldwide. His unique ability to blend fantasy with reality, while exploring themes of nature, humanity, and environmental preservation, has made him a cherished figure in animation.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation praised Miyazaki for his skill in tackling complex issues through art, making them accessible to children. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also celebrated the news, expressing her admiration for Miyazaki’s films and highlighting the value of anime for audiences of all ages.
